Sharing the passion
Camaraderie
I just recently celebrated my second anniversary (yes I celebrated!) of running. As I look back over the last two years running has successfully changed me. It has made me stronger, healthier, and more driven, more fit, more competitive, it helped me shed forty pounds and taught me what it was to have a passion. Running by all accounts has been a life changer. Then came triathlon, and I thought training for a running race was work!
Over the last two years I have had some different training partners but none that have impacted me like the groups I have now. I encourage you to seek out other people with the same passion, people who love what you love and do what you do, they will push you, they will encourage you, they will believe in you, they will keep you inline, they will be your friends, and more then that they become your family.
I run with a group in Lapeer and once a week I am with other people who run for pleasure, for competition, for weight loss, for friendships, for an outlet…and in many cases most run for all of those things. My running club isn’t just about the race, it offers education about running form, seminars to encourage given by Olympians, training advice, race encouragement, a cold drink and some yummy food after, a place to purchase the latest and greatest in running gear and some great conversation. We cheer on others at races even when we are not competing, we high five, we encourage, we push. We offer each other a place to escape to runner happiness when the world around starts coming in. My running club is a happy place, do you have one?
Most days you can find me at the gym where fellow gym goers encourage me, run beside me, and keep me inline. I sometimes just run from home and with out fail I get a text or email from my locker room buddies…they want to be sure, just as I do about them that we stay on track. Accountability is amazing.
I train for triathlon with my Tri team, I am not sure if there is a better group of people out there. They are strong, solid, dedicated individuals who don’t just offer training advice and assistance, but they share dreams and passions and a purpose. We tri to change lives and it brings purpose to what we do. I am a better person because of my tri team, grateful and better.
I encourage you to find other people to share your passions with…passions are beautiful gratifying things, and can more enjoyable when with others, share them.
