Elite Feet NBX Team

Elite Feet Running Store and New Balance are teaming up to form a racing team called Elite Feet NBx Team. Team members will receive a full racing uniform including pants, jackets, shorts, racing singlet, shoes and socks. Three to six race entries will also be provided during this season at key races around Michigan (Crim, Detroit Marathon, etc.). To find runners for this team, Elite Feet Running Store, New Balance and the Elite Feet Striders (a non-profit running club dedicated to promoting running) are putting on a 5K 10K race along with a kid’s fun run, The Running Wild/Elite Feet NBx Invitational. This event is being held concurrently with Wild Lapeer. Wild Lapeer is a family event hosted by Lapeer County Parks and Recreation in downtown Lapeer featuring kayaking, birds of prey, wild life, and much more. Wild Lapeer and the Running Wild/Elite Feet NBx Invitational will be a great family event. The race runs outside of Lapeer City through some of Lapeer County’s beautiful country side. Bring the entire family there will be plenty of fun for everyone.

I am currently the only female member of this team and am very excited to watch it grow! However, whether you are racing for consideration to be part of our team or you are racing for pure enjoyment this is the race for you. Dustin at Elite Feet puts on a fantastic race and there is much enjoyment had by everyone that participates. Unfortunately this race is only five days after I run the Boston Marathon so I wont be participating, however, I will be the crazy curly haired girl at the finish line cheering you all on! Hope to see you there!

Race Day Recap

What a magical day! There is something exceptional about a group of runners gathering on race day. Coming together to share a race is something pretty special in its self but today was exceptional.

It was a cold overcast and windy day but the weather didn’t squash the excitement. The race started fast. I found myself chasing down two other very strong runners. It was a fight for third between me and another woman, we leap-frogged back and forth the entire race, she got me around mile four and I was having trouble hanging on. It was near that time that the 5k and 8k courses came together and the masses gathered, I knew if I let her get any distance ahead of me I would loose her, so I ran. I ran hard. I held her until about 4.5 miles when I saw the finish line ahead and I knew it was either her or me. I wasn’t willing to let it be her. I passed her, I held her off and I beat her, by only 4 seconds, but I beat her. I finished with a huge amount of pride…and then it got better. I found the others I ran with who ran the 5k, they had either PR’d or successfully finished their first race. Shortly after returning to the finish line I was able to cheer my other friends in their finish…my pride in the group I was running with was unexplainable.

It was as we were awaiting the last members of our group to finish that the most amazing moment of the day happened. An older fellow who ran with the American flag the whole way came up to me and my friends. He whispered, these colors don’t run and shook the hands of my friends, and then he handed me a bracelet of red white and blue beads. He was a beautiful man with an amazing genuine spirit and I couldn’t be more speechless. The race is about competition, it is about running….but it is also about the people you meet, the friends you share it with and the strangers that impact you. I am a blessed girl. Today was amazing, I will not forget this day.
